Start With What People Want

You do not need to have it all figured out. You need a real person, a real problem, and a cheap simple way to find out whether anybody cares.

1. Do Not Start With a Product

Start with the other person. What are they already trying to solve, learn, buy, fix, avoid, or make easier?

  • Repeated questions people keep asking
  • Complaints about something being hard, confusing, expensive, or time-consuming
  • Things people already pay someone else to do
  • Products people buy but wish worked better
  • Results people clearly want but do not know how to get

2. Use Free Places to Find the Clues

  • Google searches and suggested questions
  • YouTube titles, comments, and questions
  • Amazon, Etsy, and other marketplace reviews
  • Reddit and public communities
  • Reviews that say “I wish,” “too hard,” “finally,” “confusing,” or “I needed”

Bring the real words into ChatGPT and use it as the sorter. Ask it to group repeated problems, desired results, objections, and small offer ideas.

3. Make the Smallest Useful Thing

  • A one-page checklist
  • A short plain-English guide
  • A worksheet or template
  • A resource list
  • A simple service
  • A tiny lesson or email series

You are trying to get one honest signal from the market before you build more.

4. This Whole Thing Is the Example

I wanted to know whether people would want a simple way to figure out what they could sell online. So I made this guide, put up one landing page, and asked real people to give me their email if they wanted it.

  • Question: what the heck are people buying online?
  • Small offer: this free guide
  • Test: one clean landing page
  • Signal: somebody gives an email to get it
  • Next move: learn what those people want next

5. What You Actually Need to Start

A phone or computer, internet, and an email address are enough to begin researching and testing. When you eventually sell, you will also need a way to receive money.

You do not need inventory, an office, employees, a custom logo, or paid software just to see whether an idea has legs.

6. Use a Free Setup Until You Need More

Systeme.io has a permanent free plan with no credit card required. It currently includes up to 2,000 contacts, 3 sales funnels, 1 course, 1 affiliate program, 1 custom domain, and unlimited email sending.

7. Let the Market Answer You

  • People visit but do not sign up: work on the idea, audience, or wording
  • People sign up: there is enough interest to keep learning
  • People reply with questions: save those questions
  • People ask how to buy more help: pay close attention
  • Nobody cares after a fair test: change direction before wasting more time

Find a real problem. Make one small useful thing. Test it. Learn from what happens.
